Does the Bible permit rape?

Many times when I've read the text and I had to take a double-take because something stood out. Perhaps we thought it was strange or even unbelievable and there are times when it seems repulsive. Depending on how we handle the situation we may rush to our bookshelf and pick a commentary, or maybe we have our Rabbi, Pastor, or Priest on speed dial to ask "What the heck did I just read?" While some easily understood what was written, I'm not one of those people so I'm hoping this helps.

Excerpt 1 - Deuteronomy 22:25-27 (KJV)

But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die:
But unto the damsel thou shalt do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death: for as when a man riseth against his neighbour, and slayeth him, even so is this matter:
For he found her in the field, and the betrothed damsel cried, and there was none to save her.
